Elms Softball Drops Pair On Opening Day

NAPLES, Fla. – The Elms College softball team dropped a pair of games on opening day, falling 1-0 to Clark and 14-1 to Kenyon on Saturday in Naples, Fla.

The Blazers will continue the Gene Cusic Classic on Sunday, facing Drew and Penn State Altoona.

GAME 1 – Clark 1, Elms 0
The Blazers (0-2) came up short in a pitcher's duel in the early game on Saturday. Clark's one run on a hit-by-pitch in the second inning was enough to edge Elms. The Cougars tallied five hits in the game while pitcher Sami West tossed a no-hitter to pick up the win. Kayla Doherty and Elizabeth Olszewski each earned a walk, representing the Blazer's only two base-runners in the game.

GAME 2 – Kenyon 14, Elms 1
Katelyn Sylvia hit an RBI single in the fifth inning, but the damage had been done as Kenyon picked up a 14-1 win over the Blazers in the afternoon game on Saturday.

Kenyon scored five runs in the second and five in the fifth and tacked on two each in the first and fourth innings for the route. Kenyon finished with 20 hits in the contest and Britny Patterson led the team with four RBIs.
