Men's Swimming Comes Up Short at Norwich

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Elms College women's swimming team raced past host Norwich University, 153-123, in a non-conference dual meet at Goodyear Pool Saturday afternoon. The Blazers men's squad fell to the Cadets, 153-98.

Senior Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) won the 100 yard butterfly (1:15.00) and the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:13.99, and took second in the 50 yard butterfly (27.71). Sophomore Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) recorded first-place finishes in the 50 yard backstroke (33.16) and the 100 yard backstroke (1:13.06). Junior Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) won the 1000 yard freestyle (13:24.02) and took second in the 500 freestyle (6:27.60). Freshman Kayla Gurney (Wilbraham, Mass.) clocked in first in the 50 yard breaststroke (35.53) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:51.31), along with second-place in the 50 yard freestyle (28.64). Freshman Desi Milar (Easthampton, Mass.) placed first in the 200 yard freestyle (2:22.11), the 50 yard freestyle (28.52), and second in the 100 yard freestyle (1:03.21). Senior Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) registered a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 yard breaststroke (38.23) and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:57.16). Junior Rebecca Carterud (South Windsor, Conn.) came in second in the 1000 yard freestyle (14:20.28) and third in 200 yard freestyle (2:50.47). Freshman Amanda Rotberg (Rowley, Mass.) was third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:21.52) and fourth in the 50 yard backstroke (37.32). Senior Miranda Pratt (Southington, Conn.) was fourth in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 16:09.63. In the 200 yard medley relay, the team of Connors, Gurney, Panetta, and Milar placed first with a time of 2:09.20. In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of O'Connell, Carterud, Pratt and Rotberg won with a time of 2:14.44.

Junior Ryan Burgos (Plaistow, N.H.) won the 1000 yard freestyle with a time 11:12.35, and took second in the 500 yard freestyle (5:09.05). Junior Nick Cirillo (Gloversville, N.Y.) placed first in the 50 yard butterfly (26.22), second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.38), and third in the 100 yard freestyle (52.37). Senior James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded a first-place finish in the 400 yard individual medley, a second-place finish in the 200 yard backstroke (2:16.04), and third-place in the 50 yard backstroke (29.29). Senior Misha Kuyuzov (Swampscott, Mass.) grabbed second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.07) and 50 yard butterfly (27.71). Freshman Michael Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) logged a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle (24.13) and the 100 yard freestyle (51.33). Sophomore DJ Sherman (Winstead, Conn.) took second in the 400 yard individual medley (5:00.92) and third in 200 yard backstroke (2:16.04). Sophomore Tony Luciani (Agawam, Mass.) came in third in the 50 yard butterfly (31.89). Freshman Kevin Corcoran (Waterbury, Conn.) finished fourth in the 500 yard freestyle (5:37.62). In the 200 yard freestyle relay, the team of Michael Grippo, Cirillo, Burgos, and Kuyuzov claimed first with a time of 1:34.91. In the 200 yard medley relay, the team of James Grippo, Sherman, Corcoran, and Luciani took third with a time of 2:01.82.

The Blazers will return to action against Regis College on Senior Day at Partyka Natatorium at 11:00 a.m.
