Western Connecticut Overpowers Men's Soccer

Mickey Howe, Sports Information Intern

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College men's soccer team dropped a game to visiting non-conference foe Western Connecticut State University, 7-1.  The Blazers fall to 3-8 on the season, while West Conn improves to 7-4.

Western Connecticut did not waste any time getting the scoring as they found the back of the net just 1 minute into the game.  Robert Della Penna (Suffield, CT), raced down the right side and snuck one in past the goalkeeper to give West Conn the 1-0 lead.  The Blazers would strike back quickly however, as Babba Jaden (Clarkston, GA), knocked one in past the keeper off a deflection to knot the score at 1-1.

Western Connecticut would dominate from there on out.  Junior Chauncey Allers, (Wilton, Connecticut), found the back of the net for the Colonials just 8 minutes later.  Allers was not done their though.  He would find the back of the net 3 more times to finish the night with 4 goals.  The Blazers could not get anything going the rest of the game, as they were out shot 20-10.

Robert Della Penna would chip in another goal in the 18th minute of the first half.  Allers would make it 5-1 in the 57th minute and Eamonn D'arcy would add the 7th goal after a couple of nifty moves to shake a few Blazers defenders.

The Blazers take the field again on Saturday when they are home against Johnson and Wales.  Western Connecticut State looks to remain in the win collumn on Saturday when they face Eastern Connecticut State in a conference game.
