Blazers Drop Home Opener to WestConn

Chicopee, MA - The Elms College men's basketball team dropped their non-conference home opener tonight to Western Connecticut State University, ending 78-62.

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 62, WestConn 78

RECORDS: Elms (0-3, 0-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Graduate guard D.J. Edelen and seniori David Lopez Jr. carried the Blazers tonight in the loss to Western Connecticut State University ending in 78-62.

The visitors dominated the glass with a 43-30 advantage while also commanding a strong advantage in points in the paint along with bench scoring.

WestConn started off with an 18-4 run and maintained a 41-35 advantage at halftime.

The Blazers trimmed the lead to five points less than two minutes into the second half but unfortunately did not get any closer.

WestConn pulled away quickly, keeping a double digit point lead to finish out the game.

"It was really exciting to open up our home opener. The energy and volume in Picknelly Arena was great. It gave us a huge boost, but we fell short. We're excited to go on the road to start our conference season on Thursday against Johnson & Wales."
