Women's Volleyball Outlasts Pine Manor

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's volleyball escaped with a 3-2 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21, 25-20, 15-11) victory over visiting Pine Manor College in a non-conference match at Picknelly Arena Wednesday night. With the win, the Blazers improve to 2-12 on the season, while Pine Manor drops to 2-11 overall.

The Blazers led the Gators throughout the first two sets, posting 25-21 and 25-16 victories to push to a 2-0 lead. The Gators settled in during the third and fourth sets, picking up a 25-21 win, followed by a decisive 25-20 win in the fourth to send the match to a fifth set. The sides battled back-and-forth over the final set, but Elms closed the match on a 6-3 run to put the Gators away.

Sophomore Danielle Redding (Las Vegas, Nev.) paced the Blazers attack with a match-high 15 kills, paired with 12 digs and five service aces. Freshman Hannah Adams (Deerfield, Mass.) posted a double-double with a match-high 28 digs with 12 kills and four aces. Senior Carolyn Campbell (Millers Falls, Mass.) dished out a match-high 40 assists, while junior Kate Moriarty (Agawam, Mass.) added 13 digs with seven kills. Freshman Haley Asselin (South Hadley, Mass.) contributed ten digs, seven digs, and a block in the win.

The Gators were powered by freshman Kendra Williams (San Diego, Calif.) with a team-high 12 kills, nine digs and three blocks. Freshman Keisha Hadorn (Yokosuka, Japan) logged 15 digs, nine kills and two blocks, while freshman Viyanni Johnson (Las Vegas, Nev.) added 10 digs, six kills and three aces. Junior Ashley Whiteshield (Seward, Alaska) tallied a team-high 29 assists with three digs, two kills and two aces.

The Blazers will look to remain in the win column when they host Eastern Nazarene in non-conference action at Picknelly Arena Saturday at Noon. The Gators will travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy for a twinbill Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
