Top-Seeded Regis College Advances Past No. 4 Women’s Lacrosse, 20-8

WESTON, Mass. – Elms College junior midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) and sophomore attacker Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) netted three goals each, but top-seeded Regis College used a four-goal effort from Teresa Busiek (Arlington, Mass.) and the Pride notched a 16-1 lead at halftime to help secure a 20-8 victory over the fourth-seeded Blazers in Wednesday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Championship tournament semifinal women's lacrosse contest in Weston, Mass.

With the loss, Elms concludes its season 4-11 overall, while Regis improves to 13-3 on the season and advances to the NECC Championship tournament title game.

Busiek and Grace Politis (Billerica, Mass.) netted a pair of early goals before Narey put Elms on the board at the 26:32 mark to set the score at 2-1 in favor of Regis. The Pride then exploded for 14 straight markers. Busiek netted three more goals, Sam Salamone (Milford, Mass.) notched three goals, Politis and Stacy Burns (Waltham, Mass.) scored twice, and Katie Haidemenos (Warwick, R.I.), Lindsey Graver (Bellingham, Mass.), Rachel Wong (Wakefield, Mass.) and Abbie Wehr (Suwanee, Ga.) registered a goal apiece in the first period.

In the second half, Elms outscored the Pride, 7-4 as Narey found the net twice, while Pirog tallied all three of her markers and freshman defender Kathleen Tuechler (Farmingdale, N.Y.) added two of her own.

Regis added scores from Haidemenos, Sashae Walls (Everett, Mass.), Arianna Woodley (Norwood, Mass.), and Sierra Luce (Hartford, Vt.) to seal the 20-8 victory.

Freshman midfielder Kaeliegh Dowe (Somers, Conn.) and sophomore Sarah Carpenter (Vernon, Conn.) picked up four groundballs behind Tuechler's five pickups, while she and Narey led Elms with eight draw controls each.

Carpenter made five saves and suffered the loss and played the first half between the pipes. Freshman Sabrina Pereira (South Windsor, Conn.) made four saves in second half action.

Rachel Gagnon (Ashford, Conn.) made six groundball pickups for Regis, while Busiek, Walls and Salamone added three each.
