Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Smith College, 25-4

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – Elms College senior midfielder Emily Walsh (Hadley, Mass.) and freshman attacker Lauren Mazza (Agawam, Mass.) scored two goals apiece, but Smith College's Becky Bracken (Barrington, R.I.) scored seven goals and the Pioneers held a 17-0 advantage at intermission to help complete a 25-4 victory in Thursday afternoon's non-conference women's lacrosse game in Northampton, Mass.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-6 on the season, while Smith improves to 5-3 overall.

Smith scored the first 19 goals of the game and kept Elms scoreless for the first 43:02.

Six players scored for Smith as Jenny Estes (Falmouth, Mass.) followed Bracken's effort with five goals, while Meaghan Fileti (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) added four to spark the Pioneers to victory. Bracken registered a game-high five groundballs, while Blazers' senior defender Emily McInerney (Glastonbury, Conn.) and senior goalkeeper Rachel Schrutt (Chicopee, Mass.) recorded four groundball pickups each.

Schrutt made 18 saves between the pipes but suffered the loss, while Smith's net-minder Alina Pechacek (Andover, Mass.) turned away two shots in the win for the Pioneers.

Elms returns to New England Women's Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action on Saturday, March 31 when it hosts Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 2:00 p.m. at Leary Field.
