Elms College senior goalkeeper Rachel Schrutt (Chicopee, Mass.), playing her first season of collegiate lacrosse, was named the New England Women’s Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year and First Team All-NEWLA as announced by the league on Wednesday.

Elms College sophomore midfielder Kayla Narey (South Hadley, Mass.) scored five goals including the game-tying goal on a free position shot with 7:11 to play in the second period to send the game to overtime, but Wheelock College received a three-score effort from Valerie Ferrante (Milford, Mass.) including what stood as the game-winner with 25 seconds left in the extra frame to give the Wildcats a thrilling 13-12 victory in Thursday evening’s non-conference women’s lacrosse game.
