Softball Sweeps NECC Weekly Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College swept the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) weekly awards as announced by the league on Monday.

Sophomore catcher Sarah Buckley (Wilbraham, Mass.) was named NECC Hitter of the Week after going a combined 3 for 6 at the plate with three runs batted in to help lift the Blazers to a doubleheader sweep of Johnson State College. Buckley had two of her three hits in the first game, including a two-bagger and a sacrifice fly in addition to all three of her RBI. This is Buckley's second weekly accolade of the season.

Junior hurler Courtney Hampton (Westfield, Mass.) pitched the Blazers to a win in game two, fanning four batters and allowing just two hits en route to a complete-game shutout victory. For her efforts, Hampton, who took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, earned NECC Pitcher of the Week honors for the second time this season.

Freshman designated player Hayley Zisk (Baldwinville, Mass.) was tabbed NECC Rookie of the Week following a 3 for 5 effort at the dish during Elms' twinbill with the Badgers. Zisk struck for two hits in the first game and drove in a run, and added a hit, a run scored and a walk in the nightcap to help the Blazers complete the sweep. This is Zisk's first NECC weekly accolade of the season.
