Softball Falls To St. Mary’s (Ind.) And Wilmington (Ohio)
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Elms College senior
second baseman Ally Graffum (Ipswich, Mass.) went
a combined 3 for 5 at the dish, but the Blazers dropped an 11-2
decision to St. Mary’s (Ind.) before falling 15-3 to
Wilmington (Ohio) in Sunday afternoon’s softball action at
the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
With the losses, Elms falls to 0-4 on the season.
Game One – St. Mary’s (Ind.)
Trailing 10-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Elms plated a pair of
runs as senior center fielder Kim Lastowski (Turners Falls,
Mass.), freshman designated player Sarah Buckley
(Wilbraham, Mass.) and Graffum each recorded
back-to-back-to-back singles to start the frame. Both Lastowski and
Graffum scored in the stanza to trim St. Mary’s lead to eight
at 10-2.
The Belles added a run in the top of the fifth to secure its 11-2
victory in Sunday’s first contest.
Game Two – Wilmington (Ohio)
Wilmington took a 5-0 lead into the bottom of the fourth, before
Elms answered when Lastowski, Buckley and Graffum again registered
back-to-back-to-back singles. All three scored, as Graffum knocked
in Lastowski, and freshman third baseman Rachel Butt
(Agawam, Mass.) produced an RBI groundout to pull the
Blazers to within two at 5-3.
The Quakers added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth frame, and
then pulled away with an eight-run seventh to secure its 15-3
victory.
Graffum finished the contest 2-3 with a pair of singles a run
scored and a RBI.
Elms resumes Gene Cusic Classic action on Tuesday, March 9 with a
9:00 a.m. contest against WPI and a 1:00 p.m. meeting with North
Park.
