Softball Coach Cheryl Condon Inducted Into Rockland High School Athletics Hall Of Fame

ROCKLAND, Mass. – Elms College head softball coach Cheryl Condon was inducted into the Rockland High School Athletics Hall of Fame on Nov. 21 at the Rockland Golf Course.

Coach Condon, a graduate of Rockland High School in 1975, was a standout softball player for the Bulldogs, and was one of six former athletes to be inducted as the school’s Hall of Fame class of 2009.

“I was very surprised and honored to be recognized,” Coach Condon said. “It was great to be back at Rockland High School. My principal A. Scott MacKinlay was there and the first thing he said to me was ‘welcome home’. It truly was a special evening.”

Coach Condon, a three-sport athlete during her time in high school (basketball, field hockey, softball), was presented by her former softball coach Madeline Lannin-Cotton.

“It was a very special induction for me,” Coach Condon explained. “It was great to reflect on the time we had there with friends and former athletes and coaches. It was a great night of remembrance for me.”

Coach Condon, who has been at the Blazers' helm for all but the first season of the program's 25-year existence, earned her 300th collegiate career coaching victory during the 2009 season. She celebrated a milestone in 2006 by coaching her 500th collegiate career game, and has earned Coach of the Year honors from the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) five times - a conference record. She also earned the inaugural New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Coach of the Year honors in 2009.

In 2008, the college's newly renovated softball field was dedicated in her honor as the Cheryl R. Condon Field.

Under Coach Condon, the softball program won 26 or more games for four consecutive years from 2003-2006, including a school-record 28-7 mark in 2003 and a 27-12 record in 2006. The Blazers earned berths to the NCAA Division III Championship in 2003, 2006 and most recently in 2007. The team's appearance in the NCAAs in 2003 was the first for any sport in Elms College Athletic Department history.
