two-run homer in a 15-6, 2010 season-opening loss to Bethany
Lutheran College. The Blazers also fell 1-0 to Anna Maria College
in the team’s second game during Saturday’s softball
action at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
With the loss, Elms, starts its season 0-2, while Bethany Lutheran

Game One – Bethany Lutheran
In the second stanza, freshman right fielder Kaylyn Conroy
(Pittsfield, Mass.) led off with a single before Lastowski
drove an 0-2 pitch over the fence to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead in
the game. Bethany Lutheran got out of the inning by retiring the
next three batters in order.
Elms took a 5-4 lead into the fifth frame when Bethany Lutheran
exploded for six runs to take a 10-5 lead. The Vikings crossed the
dish five more times in the sixth to post a 15-5 lead. The Blazers
managed a run in the sixth but could get no closer.
Conroy finished the game 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and an
RBI.
Game Two – Anna Maria
Anna Maria received a fielder’s choice RBI from
Sarah Boyda (Oxford, Mass.) in the third frame to
give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
That’s all they would need as both teams produced just three
hits apiece for the entire game.
Sophomore right-hander Courtney Hampton (Westfield,
Mass.) was impressive in the circle for the Blazers,
allowing just one run on three hits, while striking out the side in
the first inning en route to six strikeouts on the day.
Elms returns to Gene Cusic Classic action on Sunday, with games
against St. Mary’s (Ind.) and Wilmington (Ohio) at 1:00 p.m.
and 3:00 p.m. respectively.
