Track and Field Registers Nine New School Records at Smith Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's track and field team set nine new school records while competing at the Smith College Invitational Saturday afternoon.

For the men's team, junior Donald Whittle (Somers, Conn.) won the long jump event with a new school record of 6.96 meters. Freshman Babba Jaden (Clarkston, Ga.) claimed first in the triple jump event with a new personal best of 12.95 meters, while finishing sixth in the long jump (5.75m). Freshman Edwin Burgos (Boston, Mass.) posted a new school record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.18, while classmate Richie Hernandez (North Branford, Conn.) set a new program mark in the 1500 meter run at 4:51.29. Freshman Alex Ciskowski (North Adams, Mass.) delivered a new school record in the javelin with a mark of 27.37 meters, while freshman Paul Ferraro (Walpole, Mass.) set a new personal best in the event at 24.24 meters. Junior Tony Luciani (Agawam, Mass.) registered a new personal best in the 100 meter dash (13.91), while sophomore Anthony Romei (Enfield, Conn.) notched a personal best in the long jump with a mark of 5.51 meters. The 4x100 relay team of Burgos, Luciani, Jaden and Romei set a new school record in the event with a time 48.86

On the women's side, freshman Alizaya Clark (Springfield, Mass.) clocked a new school record in the 100 meter dash at 14-seconds flat. Junior Sarah Tatgenhorst (Winterport, Maine) posted a new school record in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:33.18. In her first hurdles event, freshman Samantha Wegiel (Palmer, Mass.) set the school record with a time of 19.57 in the 100 meter hurdles. Freshman Meghan Ballentine (Gardner, Mass.) recorded a new school mark in the 200 meter dash (32.86), along with a personal best in the 400 meter dash at 1:16.76. Junior Latisha Rocke (Amherst, Mass.) clocked a personal best in the 400 meter dash (1:21.73), and freshman Emma Morton (Southwick, Mass.) delivered a personal best in the 800 meter run at 2:52.03. Sophomore Amanda Rotberg (Rowley, Mass.) notched a pair of personal bests in the 200 meter dash (34.58) and the 400 meter dash (1:24.35), and sophomore Genny Paige (Yarmouthport, Mass.) set a personal best in the javelin with a mark of 14.63 meters.

The Blazers will be back in action for the Mount Holyoke Spring Fling in South Hadley, Massachusetts on Saturday, April 15th.
