Men’s and Women’s Swimming Complete Day Two at NEISDA Championships

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, Vt. – The Elms College men's and women's swim teams completed day two action of the 2012-13 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships at Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vt. on Saturday, Feb. 9.

After two days of action, the men's team stands in fifth place out of 11 teams, while the women's squad is 15th out of 21 squads competing.

On the men's side, freshman James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) clocked a new school record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:31.92 which bested the previous record by six seconds and placed fourth overall.

Junior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) added a second place finish in the 50-yard butterfly in a school record time of 23.75, and freshman Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a new school mark of 1:00.79.

The relay squad of senior Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.), Grippo, senior Jonathan Girard (West Springfield, Mass.) and freshman Kyle Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.) clocked a new school record in the 800-yard freestyle relay, while the team of Grippo, Etheridge, Goan and junior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) glided to a third place mark in the 200-yard medley relay with a school record time of 1:39.20.

For the women's team, senior Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) narrowly missed registering a school record in the 50-yard butterfly, notching an 11th place time of 28.53.

Senior Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) placed 18th in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.78) and junior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) powered to a time of 11:05.12 in the 1000-yard freestyle and seventh place honors.

Elms concludes NEISDA Championship action on Sunday, Feb. 10 with preliminaries beginning at 9:00 a.m.
