Men’s and Women’s Swimming Race Against Gordon College and Simmons College

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's and women's swim teams hosted Gordon College on both the men's and women's side and Simmons College on the women's side on Saturday afternoon at Partyka Natatorium.

The Elms men's team earned a 146-87 victory over Gordon. The Blazers' women's team earned a 74-48 win over the Fighting Scots, while Simmons notched a 75-47 victory over Elms and an 88-34 win over Gordon.

For the men, freshman Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.) broke a pair of school records, cruising to times of 33.01 in the 50-meter breaststroke and 1:14.52 in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Junior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) added three victories in the 50-meter backstroke (31.32), the 100-meter butterfly (1:05.10), and the 50-meter butterfly (27.52), while senior Mark Gehring (West Springfield, Mass.) earned top honors in the 200-meter freestyle (2:16.67) and the 100-meter freestyle (1:00.08).

Junior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) clocked a time of 26.44 in the 50-meter freestyle to claim first in the event, and freshman James Grippo (Longmeadow, Mass.) picked up a win in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:08.44.

The Blazers' 200-meter medley relay squad of freshman Kyle Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.), Etheridge, Goan and Starke posted a winning time of 1:59.05.

On the women's side, junior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) registered a pair of first place finishes, gliding to times of 10:23.45 in the 800-meter freestyle, and 34.39 in the 50-meter backstroke, while senior Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) also touched the wall first in two events – the 50-meter breaststroke (36.83) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:22.02).

Senior Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) added a first place in the 50-meter butterfly (33.42) to round out Elms' top individual performers, while the relay squad of DeGrazia, Dudunake, Furtek and senior Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) won the 200-meter medley relay with a time of 2:13.74.

Both the men's and women's swim teams are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 10 at St. Joseph's College (Maine) at 1:00 p.m.
