Men’s and Women’s Swimming Split Against UMass-Dartmouth

CHICOPEE, Mass. – Elms College freshman Stephen Lynch (Madison, Conn.) set a pair of school records for the men's team and junior Devon DeGrazia (Westport, Mass.) set a new school mark on the women's side as the Blazers posted a split with UMass-Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon at Partyka Natatorium.

The men's team posted a 133-123 victory to improve to 4-0 on the season, while the women's team suffered a 139-117 loss and falls to 1-5 overall.

The men's relay team of Lynch, freshman Ethan Etheridge (Pawtucket, R.I.), junior Keegan Goan (Westbrook, Maine) and junior Aaron Starke (Chicopee, Mass.) set a new Elms school and pool record in the 400-meter medley relay with a time of 4:17.84.

Lynch set school records in the 50-meter backstroke with a time of 30.41 and the 100-backstroke (1:05.76), while Etheridge posted a time of 1:11.55 to set a new school record and tie the pool record in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Lynch and Etheridge finished in first and second in the 100-meter individual medley with times of 1:06.90 and 1:07.90. Etheridge added a first place mark in the 50-meter breaststroke (31.48) and Goan secured first place honors in the 100-meter butterfly (1:01.45) and the 50-meter butterfly (27.54).

For the women, DeGrazia clocked a school record in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:52.83 and earned victories in the 800-meter freestyle (10:01.72) and the 50-meter freestyle (29.41).

Senior Tessa Dudunake (Northampton, Mass.) added first place finishes in the 50-meter breaststroke (37.27), the 100-meter breaststroke (1:22.55), and the 100-meter individual medley (1:18.06).

Senior Emalee Furtek (Ludlow, Mass.) notched a pair of second place swims in the 100-meter butterfly (1:16.16) and the 50-meter butterfly (33.26), while seniors Chalis Bird (Windsor, Mass.) and Tricia Ruell (Chicopee, Mass.) finished second in the 100-meter freestyle (1:06.01) and the 100-meter backstroke (1:22.44) respectively.

The 200-meter freestyle relay team of Furtek, Degrazia, Dudunake and Bird also tabbed first place honors in with a time of 2:01.03.

Elms returns to action on Saturday, January 9 at Bridgewater State University at 4:00 p.m.
