Haggerty's Five Goals Lift Southern Vermont College Over Men's Soccer, 5-2

BENNINGTON, Vt. - Elms College senior forward Chris Silva (Chicopee, Mass.) and junior forward Sean Moylan (Chicopee, Mass.) each netted a goal for the Blazers but five scores from Nick Haggerty (Wynantskill, N.Y.) gave Southern Vermont College a 5-2 victory in Saturday afternoon's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's soccer game.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-10-2 on the season, 0-3-1 in league play, while Southern Vermont improves to 5-7 overall, 1-2 in NECC action.

Four of Haggerty's five scoring strikes occurred within a nine minute span between the 28th and 37th minutes of play, giving Southern Vermont a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Haggerty scored his fifth goal of the contest at the 63:43 mark of the second period, upping the advantage to 5-0.

Silva put Elms on the board five minutes later when he sent the ball past a diving Aaron Eschler (Gloversville, N.Y.), making the score 5-1.

Blazers' senior midfielder Sam Senecal (Chicopee, Mass.) the crossed the ball over to Moylan who lofted the ball into the back of the net setting the score at 5-2 in the 76th minute of action.

Cohen Bond (Alexandria, Va.) and Ben Naaktgeborren (Cambridge, N.Y.) each contributed a pair of assists on the day, while Doug Whitman (Bennington, Vt.) and Chris Hansen (Raymertown, N.Y.) added one helper each in the winning effort for the Mountaineers.

Eschler finished with five saves for Southern Vermont while Elms' junior goalkeepers Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) and Jonathan Coyne (East Longmeadow, Mass.) each turned away two shots in 45 minutes of playing time apiece. 

The Blazers return to non-conference action on Thursday, Oct. 14 when they travel to Mount Ida College. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
