Men’s Soccer Plays To 2-2 Double Overtime Tie Against Lyndon State

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Elms College senior defender/forward Chris Silva (Chicopee, Mass.) scored the equalizing goal in the 87th minute against Lyndon State College to send the game to extra time and the sides played two scoreless frames of overtime to post a 2-2 tie in Saturday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game.

With the tie, Elms moves to 0-4-1 on the season, while Lyndon State moves to 5-1-2 overall.

Trailing 2-0 in the second half, Elms' freshman defender Bryan Davey (Palmer, Mass.) cut into Lyndon State's lead when his shot found the back of the net setting the score at 2-1 at the 64:40 mark. The goal was his first collegiate-career tally.

The Blazers struck again with 3:26 left in regulation, this time Silva supplying the heroics, sending the game to a 2-2 tie and overtime.

Neither team managed to get its offense into gear as the Hornets connected for just two shots in the first overtime period and one in the second, while Elms didn't take a shot during extra time.

Lyndon State took a 2-0 lead thanks to a goal from Thomas Jacobs-Moore who scored on a pass from Emmitt Simpson at the 34:27 mark before Teague Coyle gave the Hornets a 2-0 advantage 11 minutes into the second stanza.

Elms' junior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) notched seven saves in the tie, including a game-saving stop in the second overtime period.

Jason Gray added six saves for Lyndon State four of which occurred in the second half.

Elms returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 21 when it travels to Westfield State College for a 7:00 p.m. game against the Owls.
