Men’s Soccer Falls To New England College, 1-0 On Penalty Kick

Box Score

HENNICKER, N.H. –
Elms College junior goalkeeper Ryan Sullivan (Agawam, Mass.) notched six saves, but New England College's Aaron Kolb (New Durham, N.H.) converted on a penalty kick opportunity early in the opening period to help lift the Pilgrims to a 1-0 victory over the Blazers in Saturday afternoon's non-conference men's soccer game.

With the loss, Elms falls to 0-1 on the season, while New England College moves to 1-1 overall.

Just 12:46 into the contest, Kolb was awarded a penalty kick with a chance to give NEC an early lead. He capitalized with what proved to be the game-winner as neither side was able to score from that point on.

The game was controlled in the middle of the field for much of the first half as both sides mustered just two shots.

In the second stanza, NEC outshot the Blazers 14-6 but could not find the back of the net as Sullivan made all six of his saves in the final 45 minutes.

Elms' freshman defender Bryan Davey (Palmer, Mass.) and freshman forward Nzigamasa Jonathan (Springfield, Mass.) each fired two shots on target before freshman forward Adam O'Grady (Somers, Conn.) threatened with an equalizing opportunity in the 88th minute but was denied by NEC goalkeeper Pat Harkin (Situate, R.I.).

Elms returns to non-conference action on Wednesday, Sept. 8 when they travel to Emmanuel College for a 7:00 p.m. showdown with the Saints.
