
Men's Hoops Defeats Anna Maria in Their Return Home
CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College Men's Basketball team hosted Anna Maria College in a conference matchup on Wednesday evening at Picknelly Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms would start off strong and junior center/guard/forward Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.) would make a jump shot, which was assisted by sophomore guard Andrew Ciaglo (Hadley, Mass.). Then senior guard/forward Aaron Sanchez (the Bronx, N.Y.) would make a defensive rebound and Cancel would make a layup. After Anna Maria took the lead, Ciaglo would pass the ball to Cancel and make a three point jump shot, which would put the Blazers down by one. After the AMCats took back the lead Ciaglo would make a three point jump shot. Which was followed by a layup made by Ciaglo. After the ball goes back and forth between both teams, Ciaglo would steal the ball and make a layup. Then after another back and forth, the Blazers would get the ball and Cancel would get an offensive rebound, which gave him the opportunity to make a tip-in. After Anna Maria tied the game, senior forward/center Addison Phifer (Hadley, Mass.) would make a jump shot. Then Cancel would get a defensive rebound and Sanchez would make a layup from a pass from graduate student forward Neilon Bridgeman (Brooklyn, N.Y.). After an unsuccessful offensive possession made by AMC, junior forward RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.) would make a jump shot. Which was followed by Ciaglo passing the ball to Sanchez who would make a layup. Then Mayfield would tip the ball in for the Blazers. After Anna Maria put up some more points, Mayfield would make a layup. Then Sanchez would make a defensive rebound which gave Mayfield the opportunity to make a layup. With 50 seconds left of the first half, Ciaglo would make a three point jump shot. At the end of the first half, the Blazers would hold the lead, 33-23.
At the start of the second quarter, the AMCats would put up the first points, but the Blazers would capitalize with a three point jump shot made by Ciaglo. Then Sanchez would make a layup for Elms. Junior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.) would get a defensive rebound, which gave Cancel the opportunity to make a layup. After another back and forth, Cancel would tip the ball into the basket after an offensive rebound. Then the AMC defense would foul Cancel, and he would make his one free throw attempt. Sanchez would get a defensive rebound and Mayfield would make a layup from a pass made by Ciaglo. The Blazers would get a rebound and Sanchez would pass the ball to Ciaglo who would make a three point jump shot. Anna Maria would foul Elms again, and Bridgeman would make both free throw attempts. After the AMCats would score some more points, Mayfield would answer back with a three point jump shot. After another foul, Mayfield would make both free throw attempts. Then Sarlan would get a defensive rebound and pass the ball to Ciaglo who would make a three point jump shot. Which was followed by a layup made by Cancel. After another Blazers rebound, Ciaglo made a three point jump shot from a pass from Mayfield. Then Sanchez would get another defensive rebound for Elms and Mayfield would make a layup. Then sophomore guard Jaiden Lopez (Lebanon, Conn.) would enter the game and was able to make a layup. Then Lopez would be fouled and would make both free throw attempts. With 34 seconds left of the game, first year forward Daniel Villanueva (Seymour, Conn.) would make a defensive rebound, which gave senior guard Taje Green (Palm Bay, Fla.) the opportunity to make a layup. Elms would take home the win against Anna Maria, 71-55.
