Men's Hoops Lose in the Coop of National Ranked Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. - The Elms College Men's Basketball traveled to Trinity College in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 42 | No. 6 Trinity College 97
Records: Blazers 0-5, 0-0 (GNAC) | Bantams 4-0, 0-0 (NESCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers would be the first to score after a jump shot by senior guard Kishaun Cole (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.). The nationally ranked Bantams would try to equalize the game quickly, but junior forward RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.) would block a tip-in attempt. Trinity would score six unanswered points to take the lead, until Mayfield would make a jump shot to trim down their opponent's lead to two points. The Bantams then take over the remainder of the half, outscoring the Blazers 42-16. Elms would see a jump shot and layup from senior guard/forward Aaron Sanchez (the Bronx, N.Y.), a layups by junior guard Aden Goffe (New Haven, Conn.) and Cole, successful free throws attempts by Goffe, Sanchez, Cole, junior Edgardo Jacob Cancel (Northampton, Mass.), and senior guard Taje Green (Palm Bay, Fla.), along with a steal by first year Shawn Rivera (Holyoke, Mass.), but Trinity would hold the Blazers to a score of 48-20 at the halftime break.

The Bantams would continue their offensive momentum into the second half scoring an early nine points in the first three minutes. Sanchez would complete two free throw attempts as the first points of the second half for Elms, followed by a layup by Goffe moments later. The defense would try their best, including a block by sophomore forward/center Lawton Ackah-Yensu (Cape Coast, Ghana) that would lead to Rivera finding an open Goffe for a three-point shot and a layup from Cancel. As the half went on, the Blazers would see a steal from Green that would lead into another three-pointer by Goffe, free throws from Cancel, junior forward Adam Sarlan (Chicopee, Mass.), Green, and Rivera, along with a block by first year forward Daniel Villanueva (Seymour, Conn.) and a steal by Ackah-Yensu. In the final minute of play, junior guard/forward Connor Manning (Grafton, Mass.) would connect with Green for a three-point shot, but unfortunately the experience from the nationally ranked Trinity offense would be too much and would defeat Elms 97-42.
