Elms Can't Contain Hot-Shooting SVC

CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College men's basketball team could not slow down a hot-shooting Southern Vermont squad on Saturday afternoon in Picknelly Arena, falling 91-60 in New England Collegiate Conference play.

The Mountaineers (13-5, 7-3 NECC) shot a blistering 62.7 percent from the field (32-of-51), 56.0 percent (14-of-25) from 3-point range, and 92.9 percent (13-of-14) from the free throw line.

David Lopez Jr. led the Blazers (3-16, 2-9 NECC) with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting and added four assists. Kewan Smoot added nine points off the bench for Elms, hitting 3-of-4 shots to go with four rebounds.

Damon Daniel led the Mountaineer charge with 17 points and Donnell Frayer Jr. added an efficient 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Kajuan Kinsey also scored 14 points off the bench for SVC and Andre Hodo added 12 for the Mountaineers.

Elms shot 41.8 percent from the field and hit 8-of-25 (32.0 percent) from 3-point range. The Mountaineers got off to a hot start, shooting 76 percent (19-of-25) from the field in the first half, including 7-of-10 from distance.

The Blazers step out of NECC play to visit Plymouth State on Jan. 28 before returning to league action on Wednesday when they visit Lesley. Southern Vermont is also in action on Monday, visiting Eastern Nazarene in a game originally scheduled for Jan. 22.
