Men's Basketball Falls To Hunter To Wrap Up John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic

NEWARK, N.J. – Michal Ohradka (Feeding Hills, Mass.) went off for 22 points but it wasn't enough to lift the Elms College men's basketball team to victory, as the Blazers fell to Hunter 81-64 in the consolation game of the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic at Rutgers-Newark on Sunday.

Ohradka hit 9-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-3 from long range and added three rebounds before fouling out. Will Leach (Washington, D.C.) added 10 points, four rebound and three assists off the bench to help the Blazer (0-3) effort.

Four Hunter (2-1) players scored in double figures on Sunday, led by 17 points from George Keener. Keener hit 7-of-9 from the field to finish with 17 points. Gio Gabbidon added 15 points, Danny Fusco scored 13 and Melvin Collins added 14 points off  the bench for Hunter. James Blair led the rebounding charger for the Hawks with 15 boards.

Elms finished with a 40-28 advantage in points in the paint but it wasn't enough to overcome large overwhelming Hawk advantages beyond the arc and at the free throw line. The Hawks hit 10-of-19 (52.6 percent) of their 3-point attempts while the Blazers jacked up 30 3s and connected on just six of them (20.0 percent). Meanwhile, Hunter scored 17 points at the free throw line (17-of-27), where Elms managed only six (6-of-11).

Hunter shot 46.6 percent from the field for the game and held Elms to 37.7 percent shooting. The Blazers committed 26 turnovers, resulting in 35 points for the Hawks, while converting 23 Hunter turnovers into 23 points.

Ohradka was recognized with a spot on the all-tournament team after averaging 18.5 points per game in two games during the John K. Adams Tip-Off Classic.

Both teams have a quick turnaround before returning action. Elms will be back home to host Trinity (CT) on Nov. 20, while Hunter will host SUNY Cobleskill the same evening.
