Men’s Basketball Falls to Daniel Webster College, 83-65

NASHUA, N.H. – Elms College junior forward Kenny Lockett (Atlanta, Ga.) netted a team-high 17 points and hauled in a game-best 14 rebounds, but Daniel Webster College used a 21-point effort from Daris Cosby (Albany, N.Y.) who led three Eagles starters in double figures to help secure an 83-65 victory in Thursday evening's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's basketball game in Nashua, N.H.

With the loss, Elms moves to 4-8 on the season, 2-2 in NECC action, while Daniel Webster improves to 10-1 overall, 4-1 in conference play.

Elms' senior forward Isaiah Odunlami (Providence, R.I.) added 14 points and five rebounds, while guard Andre French (Torrington, Conn.) added 12 points, six boards and four steals off the bench for the Blazers.

Sophomore guard Derek Murphy (Columbia, Md.) contributed nine points and freshman forward Conny Ihearahu (Largo, Md.) chipped in eight points and six rebounds in the losing effort for Elms which shot 32.9-percent from the floor.

Daniel Webster was led by Cosby's 21-point effort, while Ryan Gauthier (Nashua, N.H.) and Kevin Perez (Nashua, N.H.) registered 19 and 18 points respectively to give the Eagles three starters in double figures. David Feinstein (Londonderry, N.H.) added nine points off the bench, while Ray Farmer (Nashua, N.H.) led the team in boards with 13.

Farmer, Perez and Gauthier dished out five assists each and Cosby collected 11 rebounds in the winning effort.

Gauthier reached 14 points and Perez 12 at the break as Daniel Webster shot 44-percent as the Eagles held a 42-28 lead at the break.

A Farmer layup and Feinstein trey helped push the lead to its largest of the night at 20 (48-28) 1:28 into the second half and the lead was 19 (53-34) with 15:14left before Elms put together a 15-2 run behind seven points from French, a pair of layups from Lockett, and three inside from Odunlami including a put-back with10:37 left that trimmed the lead to 55-49.

Daniel Webster answered with strikes from beyond the arc from Perez and Feinstein to help push the lead back to double figures and another from Cosby in the right corner made it 69-56 with 7:42 to go.

The Eagles continued to fire away from outside with Cosby and Gauthier adding treys and Elms went cold down the stretch, hitting on just one of nine attempts from the field over the final seven minutes as Daniel Webster's lead increased back to 20 on a Gauthier layup with 1:53 to go as the Eagles pulled away to the 83-65 victory.

Elms returns to NECC action on Saturday, January 11 when it travels to Wheelock College for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
