NECC Men’s Basketball All-Conference Teams Announced

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Elms College men's basketball team had three players selected to the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) all-conference teams as announced by the league office on Monday.

Senior forwards Juan Alverio (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) and Edgar Martinez (Springfield, Mass.) were each named to the All-NECC Second Team, while sophomore guard Brittain Purcelle (Tarrytown, N.Y.) garnered Honorable Mention All-NECC honors.

During conference play, Alverio averaged a double-double of 11.2 points per game (157 total points) and 10.6 rebounds per game (149 total boards) in addition to amassing a team-best 26 blocked shots, 31 steals and 28 assists against league competition. Alverio is the program's all-time leader in blocked shots with 116 and is second in career rebounds with 599. During the 2010-11 campaign, he also set Blazers' single-season records in blocked shots (54) and rebounds with 292.

Martinez led Elms with a stellar 15.7 points per game average through 14 conference games this season netting a team-high 204 points in the process. Martinez, who shot 55.4-percent from the field against the NECC, also hauled in 91 rebounds (7.0 per game) and added 12 blocked shots. In two seasons with the program, Martinez has collected 40 blocked shots and ranks in the program's top 10 all-time in swats.

Purcelle was a key contributor to Elms' success this season, scoring 154 points (11.0 per game) en route to being named Honorable Mention All-NECC. Purcelle dished out 22 assists and recorded 16 steals in league play this season and has now collected 101 total assists, 54 steals and scored 567 points in two seasons.
