Silva Selected To Serve on NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Elms College head men’s basketball coach Ed Silva has recently been selected to serve on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee for a term of four years beginning on Sept. 1, 2011 until Sept. 1, 2015.

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee is comprised of 13 members including six members from Division I, three members from Division II and three members from Division III. An additional member shall be a nonvoting secretary-rules editor, who may be re-elected without restriction.

“I am very appreciative and honored to be appointed to this committee and to have the opportunity to serve with some very bright people,” Coach Silva stated. “I am also pleased to have the chance to work with colleagues on keeping the game of basketball great from a systemic level.”

Coach Silva is currently in his 10th season at Elms College, has over 15 years of college coaching experience and will bring a strong voice from the Division III level to his position on the committee.

His primary responsibilities on the committee includes communicating with the men’s basketball community on rules issues during the season; comparing ideas and gauging opinions on potential rules changes with colleagues; as well as communicating the rules-change process to the men’s basketball community. He will also evaluate playing rules on an annual basis to ensure balance between offense and defense and fair play among other considerations.
