Blazers Sweep Terriers, Collect First Wins Of Season

Fort Myers, FL - The Elms College baseball team was able to pick up their first two wins of the season on Wednesday, sweeping Hiram College in a doubleheader. The Blazers took game one 4-1 and game two in walk off fashion 4-3.

Elms 4, Hiram 1

The Terriers would score first in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Gavin Taulbee (Elyria, OH) reached first on an error scoring Alex Perrella (Cleveland, OH.). That would be the last run the Blazers would allow as Thomas Owens (Enfield, CT.) was great on the mound, scattering 4 hits over 7 innings.

The Blazer offense woke up in the 3rd platting 3 runs. The big hit would come from Nate Ayala (Springfield, MA.) when he smashed a 2 RBI doubled scoring Josh Pasini (Enfield, CT.) and Thomas Slane (Tolland, CT.)

Elms would add one more insurance run in the fourth when Slane reached first on an error scoring Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, CT).

That would be enough to secure the first win of the season for the Blazers.

Elms 4, Hiram 3

Game two would see a dramatic finish with the Blazers completing a comeback-walk off win. The Terriers got out to an early 3 run lead on a combination of hits and errors committed by Elms.

The Blazers would battle back and chip away at the Hiram lead. Thomas Slane (Tolland, CT.) singled to right field scoring Hunter Edwards (Palmer, MA.) to get the blazers on the board. Elms would get another run in the 6th when Josh Berthiaume (Pittsfield, MA) singled through the left side scoring Kevin Banas (Hatfield, MA) to put the Blazers to within one run.

The Blazers would not be denied, and in the bottom of the 7th were able to tie things up when Slane singled scoring Hoss. The Blazers would complete the walk off win when Banas singled up the middle scoring Slane.

The Blazers are back in action on Thursday when they finish play in Florida against St. John's (MINN) at 9am and 12pm
