Blazers Drop Season Opener To Bluffton

FORT MYERS, FL. - The Elms College baseball team suffered a 7-1 loss in its 2019 season opener to Bluffton University on Saturday, March 2.

A Colin Montgomery (Fremont/Clyde) sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first picked up Adam Duncan (Northwood/Lake) who laced a leadoff triple, giving Bluffton a 1-0 lead before Elms could record an out.

The Beavers added four big tallies in the third thanks to a two-run double by junior Parker Reynolds (Avon) and an RBI triple by sophomore Lenny Winiarski (Cincinnati/LaSalle). Doubles by Duncan and Gregory in the seventh made it 6-0 before Reynolds put a cherry on top with a base knock that plated Gregory for a 7-0 advantage.

Elms would threaten in the eighth when Thomas Slane (Tolland, CT.) singled and scored Alex Hoss (Stafford Springs, CT.); however, that's as close as the Blazers would get. Hoss went 2 for 4 on the day. Slane, Kevin Banas (Hatfield, MA.) and Josh Berthiaume (Pittsfield, MA.) all had a hit a piece.

The Blazers are back in action on Sunday when they take on Alvernia University in a doubleheader. First game starts at 9am
