Five Players Named All-NECC in Baseball
NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – The Elms College baseball team had five players named All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) as announced by the organization on Monday.
Elms' sophomore pitcher Tom Weldon (Springfield, Mass.) was named First Team All-NECC, junior center fielder Brady Forrest (Hampden, Mass.), sophomore shortstop Nolan Medeiros (Taunton, Mass.) and freshman left fielder Tim Gelzinis (North Dighton, Mass.) were each named Second Team All-NECC and senior catcher Zach Dreher (Naugatuck, Conn.) was named Honorable Mention All-NECC.
Weldon was 2-1 in 31.0 innings pitched. He notched a 2.90 ERA and struck out a team-high 26 batters in four games started. He allowed a total of 15 runs (10 earned) on 24 hits.
Forrest was second on the team in batting average (.314) with 22 hits including five doubles and a pair of triples, while driving in a team-high 13 runs. Medeiros connected for 11 hits (two doubles), drove in 12 runs and scored 10 runs in 18 conference games started for the Blazers. He finished conference action with a .933 fielding percentage. Gelzinis hit .383 in NECC play with 18 hits and 12 RBI and led the team with a .491 on-base percentage.
From his catcher position, Dreher hit .297 in league play. He had 19 hits including two doubles and 10 RBI, registered a .980 fielding percentage and threw out eight runners.
