Gelzinis, Grimes Garner NECC Weekly Awards

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College freshman baseball player Tim Gelzinis (North Dighton, Mass.) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Rookie of the Week and junior softball player Beth Grimes (Terryville, Conn.) was named NECC Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

Gelzinis earned his first career weekly accolade after helping Elms to a 3-2 week during which he was 7 for 14 at the plate (.500) with five walks, five RBI and eight runs scored. The first-year converted infielder posted a .650 on-base percentage and scored in all five games for the Blazers this week.

Grimes, who earned her third NECC weekly honor of the season, was 1-1 in the pitcher's circle during Elms’ 4-2 week. The junior hurler posted a 0.45 ERA, scattering seven hits while striking out 23 batters in 15.2 innings pitched. At the plate, she hit .556 including three hits in a 6-3 win over Regis College and a 9-0 win over Wheelock College.
