Women's Volleyball's Woes Continue After Loss to Wentworth

BOSTON, Mass. - The Elms College Women's Volleyball team faced off against the Wentworth Institute of Technology for a non-conference matchup on Wednesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Opening set would begin with a large Wentworth lead, earning nine-straight points, but Elms would find back-to-back kills by first-year Olivia Rivera (assisted by junior Jaylen Holman (Las Cruces, N.M.)) and senior Francesca Dirienzo (West Springfield, Mass.). The Leopards would regain momentum and would extend their lead to 15-2 until Dirienzo assisted a kill by junior Alysha Izquierdo (Holyoke, Mass.) and a second kill assisted by Holman. Wentworth would win the first set 25-5.

The second set would begin with an early Blazers lead, following a kill by Dirienzo (assisted by Rivera) and a service ace by Holman. The Leopards would gain the lead, but two kills by Izquierdo (assisted by Holman and junior Alejandra Marin (Dorado, P.R.)) to keep Elms within an arm's length of regaining the lead. WIT would continue to extend their lead, but the Blazers continue to add short spurts of offensive momentum in a kill by Marks assisted by Holman, but the Leopards would quickly regain that momentum and win the second set 25-9.

The third and final set would again see Elms earn an early lead after two kills by sophomore Quiana Gibbs (Porterville, Cali.) (one assisted by Holman) and a kill by Izquierdo (assisted by Holman), but Wentworth would continue their offensive strategy and take the lead. The Blazers would make three more kills during the set, but the Leopards would maintain the point differential, securing the set, and the match by a final score of 25-10.
