Women's Swimming Slips at Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Elms College women's swimming team registered five first-place finishes as the Blazers fell to host Western New England, 137-104, in a meet at Alumni Healthful Living Center pool Wednesday evening.

Freshman Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) won the 50 meter backstroke in a time of 31.19 and the 100 meter backstroke (1:10.12), along with a third-place finish in the 50 meter butterfly (35.16). Junior Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) claimed victory in the 50 meter butterfly with a time of 32.16, and second in the 100 meter freestyle (1:03.79). Sophomore Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) won the 200 meter individual medley (2:47.84), placed second in the 50 meter butterfly (33.82) and fourth in the 100 meter butterfly (1:16.45). Freshman Aislinn Carrier (Charlestown, Mass.) took second in the 200 meter freestyle (2:20.88) and the 500 meter freestyle (6:22.15), with a third-place finish in the 50 meter freestyle (29.51). Junior Crystal Archibald (Portland, Maine) was second in the 200 meter individual medley (2:59.28), and recorded a pair of third-place finishes in the 50 meter breaststroke (39.45) and the 100 meter breaststoke (1:27.59). Senior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) took second in the 50 meter freestyle (29.24) and fifth in the 50 meter breaststroke (42.52). Freshman Rachael Coleman (West Hartford, Conn.) was third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:06.06), fourth in the 50 meter breaststroke (40.61) and the 100 meter breaststroke (1:29.62). Sophomore Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) placed third in the 200 meter individual medley (3:07.28), fourth in the 200 meter freestyle (2:39.22), and fifth in the 500 meter freestyle (6:36.36). Freshman Mackenzie Marsters (Somers, Conn.) took fifth in the 50 meter freestyle (33.86) and sixth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:16.34). In the 200 meter freestyle relay, the team of Panetta, Aponte, Coleman, and Marsters won the event with a time of 2:01.22. In the 200 meter individual medley, the team of Connors, Carrier, Will and Aponte placed second with a time of 2:10.37.

The Blazers return to the pool in a home meet at Patrycka Natatorium against Norwich Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
