Women's Swimming Falls to Colby-Sawyer

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College women's swimming squad dropped their home opener against visiting Colby-Sawyer College, 178-81, at the Partyka Natatorium Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) registered a pair of victories, taking first in the 50 meter backstroke (34.89) and the 100 meter backstroke (1:18.92), with a third-place finish in the 100 meter individual medley (1:22.25). Sophomore Abigail Will (Hopkington, Mass.) won the 400 meter freestyle (5:24.26), came in second in the 100 meter freestyle (1:18.54), and third in the 50 meter butterfly (35.15). Junior Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) finished second in the 100 meter individual medley (1:22.17), third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:10.87), and fourth in the 100 meter butterfly (1:27.51). Sophomore Sarah Swart (Willington, Conn.) claimed second in the 400 meter freestyle (5:36.36), with a pair of fourth-place finished in the 200 meter freestyle (2:38.88) and the 50 meter freestyle (32.83). Sophomore Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) took second in the 800 meter freestyle (11:44.95), while senior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) finished third in the 50 meter freestyle (31.89). Freshman Aislinn Carrier (Charlestown, Mass.) came in fourth in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:39.05), ,sophomore Rebecca Carterud (South Windsor, Conn.) was fourth in the 100 meter backstroke (1:32.63), and freshman Rachael Coleman  (West Hartford, Conn.) took fourth in the 50 meter breaststroke (44.61). Freshman Mackenzie Marsters (Somers, Conn.) was fiftth in the 50 meter breaststroke (46.56), and freshman Molly Gagnon (Hamden, Mass.) was sixth in the 50 meter backstroke (54.34) and the 100 meter backstroke (1:59.62).

The Blazers will return to the pool Tuesday night in a match against Smith College at Partyka Natatorium at 7:00 p.m.
