Women's Swimming Slip Against Smith

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Elms College women's swimming team was defeated by visiting Smith College, 141-93, in a swim meet at Partyka Natatorium Tuesday night.

Junior Crystal Archiblad (Portland, Maine) won the 200 meter backstroke, while taking second in the 200 meter individual medley (3:31.67) and fourth in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:34.16). Freshman Ashlee Connors (Springfield, Mass.) won the 200 meter individual medley (3:02.61), along with fourth-place finishes in the 200 meter backstroke (2:54.81) and the 100 meter backstroke (1:19.28).Sophomore Abigail Will (Hopkinton, Mass.) took first in the 50 meter butterfly in a time of 34.90, while finishing second in the 100 meter butterfly (1:18.37). Sophomore Sarah Swart (Willington, Conn.) was second in the 400 meter freestyle (5:33.46), third in the 200 meter freestyle (2:36.11), and third in the 100 meter freestyle (1:13.22). Junior Kim Panetta (Belchertown, Mass.) scored a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 meter freestyle (2:32.10) and the 50 meter butterfly (35.73). Freshman Aislinn Carrier (Charlestown, Mass.) finished second in the 200 meter breaststroke (3:34.57), and fifth in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:36.82). Sophomore Kelly O'Connell (Monson, Mass.) took third in the 400 meter freestyle (6:06.11), and fourth-place finishes in the 50 meter butterfly (46.70) and the 800 meter freestyle (11:45.70). Senior Erika Aponte (Palmer, Mass.) was third in the 50 meter freestyle (31.61) and fourth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:13.43), while freshman Mackenzie Marsters (Somers, Conn.) placed sixth in the 100 meter breaststroke (1:46.37). Freshman Rachael Coleman (West Hartford, Conn.) took fourth in the 50 meter freestyle (35.83), sixth in the 200 meter freestyle (2:54.19), and sixth in the 100 meter freestyle (1:19.25). In the 200 meter medley relay, the team of Connors, Archibald, Will, and Aponte took second with a time of 2:21.97, while the team of Swart, Panetta, Carrier and sophomore Rebecca Carterud (South Windsor, Conn.) was fourth (2:34.10). In the 200 meter freestyle relay, the squad of Will, Panetta, Carrier and Aponte came in first with a time of 2:06.30.

The Blazers will return to the pool when they host UMass-Dartmouth in a meet at Partyka Natatoirum Saturday afternoon.
