ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Elms College women's soccer took gave up a two goal as they battled Utica College to a 2-2 double overtime draw in their final game of the Erinn K. Brozman Cup Sunday afternoon at Elmore Field. The Blazers move to 3-1-1 overall, while Utica sits at 2-2-1 on the year.
The Blazers wasted little time cracking the scoreboard as senior midfielder Michelle Rossignol (Manchester, Conn.) gathered a loose ball and ripped a 12-yard shot inside the far post to stake Elms to a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute of action. With 25:23 remaining in the first half, the Blazers drew a foul on the Pioneers in the goalie box, awarding Elms a penalty kick. On the ensuing penalty kick, sophomore forward Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.) fired a shot past Utica junior goalkeeper Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, N.Y.) to push the Blazers advantage to 2-0.
Utica trimmed the Elms lead to 2-1 in the 34th minute as freshman midfielder Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, N.Y.) launched a shot from 22 yards out that curled by the reach of Blazers senior Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.), to make it a 2-1 game. Elms maintained their 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
After nearly 30 minutes of scoreless play in the second half, the Pioneers evened the score with 16:30 remaining as freshman forward Abby Reilly (Brookfield, N.Y.) collected the rebound off a Utica corner kick and snuck a shot past Rinaudo to even the score at 2-2. The teams headed to overtime knotted at 2-2. During the two overtime period, the Blazers outshot the Pioneers, 5-3, but both teams failed to find the golden goal, resulting in the 2-2 draw.
The Pioneers edged the Blazers in the shot column, 15-12, during the contest. Rinaudo made a season-high eight saves for Elms, while Enders stopped four shots for Utica.
The Blazers will be back in action with a home tilt against Smith College Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. Utica hosts SUNY-Poly Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
