CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College women's soccer team came out victorious once again after an intense battle with rival Albertus Magnus Saturday afternoon at Leary Field. With the win the Blazers rise to 2-0 overall while the Falcons drop to 0-2 on the season.

The Blazers started off strong with numerous power plays down the field. Sophomore Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) and junior Rachel Connell (Easthampton, Mass.) both came out blazing for the attack each attempting a shot on goal in the first. However, the Falcons senior goalkeeper Maria Case (West Haven, Conn.) kept them out of the box. After 11 minutes of play, sophomore forward Brie Voight (Springfield, Mass.) broke the silence netting the Blazers opening goal off of a Soucia assist. Vought tripped up the defense opening an opportunity for a one on one with the keeper leading to the goal.

The Blazers went into the second half with the upper hand as senior Alexa Rinaudo (Bellmore, N.Y.) protected the net from two Falcon attempts keeping Albertus Magnus scoreless in the first.

The Blazers were able to keep up the intensity at the start of the second half acquiring two corner kick attempts before a pass from Voight found the feet of sophomore midfielder Mackenzie LaRochelle (Chicopee, Mass.). LaRochelle found a pocket in the Falcons goal and shot a bullet over Case's shoulder to put the Blazers up by two.

However the Falcons swooped in with 11 minutes left in the second as junior Taylor Rotella (Milford, Conn.) netted their lone goal off of a Victoria Laverey (West Haven, Conn.) ball. Rinaudo made the final save of the afternoon with minutes left to play after a failed Falcon cross, in turn sending the Blazers away with the victory.

The Blazers will be back in action this Tuesday as they travel to MCLA for a 4:30PM start.
