HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers are on a hot streak with 3 GNAC wins in a row after last night's hard fought victory taking down the number 6 team, Saint Joseph Bluejays.

Leary Field saw all the action last night and kept fans on the edge of their seats.  The Bluejays came out ready for a fight with leaders Makenzie Dinger putting up 9 goals and her counterpart, Ashley Rufo netting 5 to keep the Bluejays in the game.

Although the Bluejays fought hard, the Blazers did not let up.  Greta Frankwicz (Cape Elizabeth, ME) had a shutout performance with 5 Goals and 5 Ground Balls. She wasn't the only one on fire that night, Senior Captains Taylor Borla (Southington, CT) and Anna-Elise Pikul (Belchertown, MA) also both put up 5 Goals a-piece and a combined 22 Draw Controls with Pikul coming up with 14 herself.  First Year Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, NY) also had herself a night by contributing on all fronts, picking up 3 Assists and 6 Ground Balls accompanied by 2 Goals for herself.  The composure of the Blazers is what solidified last night's win and was an all around team victory.

Speaking of team victory, the Blazer defense was on lockdown last night led by none other than Gianna Liquori (East Longmeadow, MA).  Liquori ended the night with a save percentage of over 51% and picked up her 200th save of her career and snagged 5 Ground Balls herself, giving the defense the leg up they needed.  Taylor Borla (Southington, CT) and Anna-Elise Pikul (Belchertown, MA) also contributed on the defensive end just as much as the attacking front.  The duo came up with 3 Caused Turnovers each, both leading the team in Caused Turnovers on the night.

Overall this victory was not an easy one to pick up by the Blazers but their resilience and composure in the high stakes match up got them the win at the end of the long 60 minute fight.  The stat sheet was stuffed by both teams which kept the game close but The Blazers maintained the lead for majority of the game and kept rolling.
