Vurno Claims NECC Rookie Honors

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Elms College freshman Vanessa Vurno (Salem, Conn.) was named the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Vurno earns her sixth rookie of the week award this season.

Vanessa wrapped up the regular season with 18 points across three contests last week. Vurno logged six points on three goals and three assists in a 23-4 win over Bay Path, followed with a two-goal, two-assist effort against Regis. In a battle at Southern Vermont, Vanessa recorded eight points, fueled by a career-high seven goal game.

For the season, Vanessa leads the NECC in points (77), and ranks second in assists (31), and seventh in goals (46). As a freshman, Vurno has set the program record for points in a season, and assists in a season. Vurno ranks third all-time in program history for goals in a season.

Vurno and the Blazers enter the NECC Championship tournament as the six-seed and will travel to third-seeded Southern Vermont College in the first round Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
