BOSTON, Mass. – The Elms College women's lacrosse team fell to the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards, 21-13, in a non-conference tilt at Sweeney Field Tuesday night. With the loss the Blazers drop to 1-3 overall, while the Leopards improve to 2-2.

The Leopards wasted little time lighting up the scoreboard as Amanda Dexter (Harvard, Mass.) scored 34 seconds into the contest, to which the Blazers combated with an unassisted tally from Ashley Cava (Wilbraham, Mass.) at the 28:50 mark. From there an Allisa Porfillo (Agawam, Mass.) pass found the stick of Cava who was able to secure a Blazer strike finding the back of the net once again to give Elms their first lead of the evening.

Back-to-back play ensued as the first half got further underway as Jackie Soucia (Belchertown, Mass.) continued the Blazers run securing her seventh goal of the season with 27:07 left in the first.

The Leopards would push back going on a two goal stint fronted by Dexter and Brook Paradis (Pelham, N.H.) enabling Wentworth to regain their initial lead. Although the Leopards continued to steadily rack up their scoreboard the Blazers offense pushed back with Soucia dominating the Elms scoring column in the half tallying six more goals before the halftime buzzer sent the Blazers to the locker room trailing by three.

As the second half began the Leopards were able to strike first with a Dexter bullet finding its way past the Elms defense to push Wentworth's lead to four. The Blazers added a Jillian Pirog (Ludlow, Mass.) shot followed by a third Cava tally to keep Elm's hopes alive. Despite the Blazers hard fought momentum the Leopards continued to push down the field scoring the last six of seven goals in the remainder of the matchup to secure their 21-13 victory.

Soucia led all scorers with a game-high seven goals, while Cava added three goals, and Pirog notched two for Elms. Porfilio tallied one goal while dishing out two assists on the night.

Paradis and Pam Mudge (Hooksett, N.H.) both tallied five for the Leopards, while Dexter secured four goals and two assists in the win.

The Blazers outshot the Leopards, 40-27, during the contest, while winning ground balls, 24-20, and draw controls, 23-13. Elms goalkeeper Sabrina Pereira (South Windsor, Conn.) stopped four shots, while Leopard goalie Hayley Patton (Cranston, R.I.) made twenty saves in the effort.

The Blazers will look to return to the win column as they host Sage at home Thursday at 4:00 p.m. Wentworth will host Wheelock Saturday March 19th for a 1:00 p.m. start.
