Johnston and Turco Bring Home NEWBA Weekly Honors

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) has announced their weekly award selections for the week ending on November 17th Wednesday morning.

NEWBA Weekly Awards (Week 1) Release - November 19, 2024

First year forward/center Mary Turco (Winthrop, Mass.) was named the NEWBA Rookie of the Week after she recorded 33 points, 23 rebounds, three assists, and a steal while shooting 12 for 16 from the field and nine out 13 from the free throw line for the Blazers last week against Emerson and Fitchburg State. On Saturday against the Falcons, Turco recorded 27 of those points shooting 11 for 12 from the field.

Graduate student guard Rahmia Johnston (Newtown, Conn.) would be named to the NEWBA Weekly Honor Roll Second Team after she added 40 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and six steals, while shooting 11 for 25 from the field and 12 for 17 from the line to her career totals against the Lions and Falcons last week for Elms.
