Chicopee, MA – The Elms College Women's Basketball Team swept a home and away series with Becker College over the weekend. The Blazers were dominant in both wins, taking the home game 55-38 and the road game 72-37.
Friday's home game was a big occasion for not only the women's basketball team, but for all of Elms College. The Blazers would celebrate the careers of seven of their seniors: Waleska Kelly (Central Falls, RI), Lashaunte White (Miami, FL), Tatyana Correia (Providence, RI), Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA), Jayla Latham (West Springfield, MA), Sarah Clark (Weare, N.H.), and Regina LeBlanc (Enfield, CT).
This also was the first home contest for the Elms College Athletics Department in almost a year, when all sport programs where shut down due to the pandemic.
Game 1: Elms 55- Becker 38
The Blazers came out of the gate with a lot of energy, and jumped out to an early lead. The hosts would never trail in the game, leading from start to finish dominating most of the play.
Elms was led by Leblanc, who finished with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals.
Game 2: Elms 72 – Becker 37
Elms would outscore Becker 13-4 in the second quarter, giving the Blazers a 30-15 lead at the half. Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA) led all scorers in the half with seven points.
Elms turned up the heat on offense coming out of the locker room for the second half. The Blazers shot 17-of-31 in the second half, scoring 21 points in both the third and fourth quarters, including a 16-0 run in the fourth, on their way to the 72-37 win.
