Pickett, Burr Receive All-Conference Selections

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Two members of the Elms College women's basketball team were selected to the 2015-16 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) All-Conference team, announced by the league office Monday afternoon. Senior JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) and junior Emily Burr (East Hartford, Conn.) claimed Second Team All-NECC honors, with Pickett taking home her fourth All-Conference award, while Burr earns her first.

Pickett collects her second career Second Team selection after averaging 9.4 points with a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game. Pickett registered her 1,000 career point against Regis on February 13th, becoming the eighth player in program history to accomplish the feat. Pickett ranked sixth in the NECC in field goal percentage, shooting at a 46.8% clip, while finishing seventh in total rebounds (219) and tenth in rebounds per game. Pickett swatted 40 shots on the season, fourth-most in the NECC, and set the program mark for blocks in a season.

Burr led the Blazers offense with a team-high 12.8 points per game, ranking 11th in the league, while adding 3.6 rebounds and nearly two assists per game. Burr netted double digits in points in 17 games on the season, including a career-high 23 points on three occasions. Burr finished ninth in the NECC in total points (345) and tenth in three-point field goal percentage (27.3) and free throws made (81).

Senior Maira Pantoja (East Windsor, Conn.) was voted to the All-Sportsmanship team.

Regis College's Amanda Hawkesworth was named NECC Women's Basketball Player of the Year. Hawkesworth averaged 18.4 points per game as she led the Pride to their fourth straight NECC Title. Throughout the 2015-2016 Season, the junior forward led the conference in offense rebounds collecting 84 boards. Hawkesworth also finished fifth in the conference with 9.5 boards per game in NECC play.

 

Savannah Olsen started her collegiate career with some remarkable numbers, earning NECC Rookie of the Year honors. The freshman from Newbury led the Nighthawks to the Championship game for the first time in the school's history. Olsen finished the season averaging 13.9 points per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field.

 

Regis College coach Angela Santa Fe earned her second straight NECC Coach of the Year honor after leading the pride to an undefeated season and winning the NECC Championship.  In her time at Regis Santa Fe has amassed a 69-14 record.

 

Amber Flagg paced the Southern Vermont Mountaineers ranking among the NECC leaders in overall points per game (17.4), assists per game (4.0), and also third in free throw percentage (73.9). The senior guard became the Southern Vermont's All-time leading scorer during her senior campaign.

 

Brittany Stone earned NECC first team honors after averaging 16.9 points per game and shooting 60.3% from the field. The reigning NECC Rookie of the Year finished conference play with 8.9 rebounds per game and 32 blocks on the season.  

 

The Wheelock Wildcats finished their best season in school history as they made and hosted a game in the NECC tournament. Their offense was led by junior forward Michelle Woods who earned a spot on the NECC First Team. Woods ranked fourth in overall points per game (16.9), while also landing seventh in the conference games for free throw percentage (68.7).

 

Rounding out the NECC First Team was Ashley England from Daniel Webster College. The senior ranked third in the conference shooting 33.6 from three-point land. England also finished with an overall average of 15.2 points per game.
