Women's Basketball Voted Fourth In NECC Preseason Poll

ATTLEBORO, Mass. – Regis College chosen to repeat as the NECC Women's Basketball Champions for the 2015-2016 season by the preseason coaches' poll. The Pride collected eight of the ten first place votes for a total of 96 points. Regis has won three consecutive titles, but will have to look to their young players including the defending NECC Rookie of the Year, forwardBrittany Stone.

Southern Vermont College takes second place after making it to the NECC Championship game last season. The Mountaineers finished with 85 points and one first place vote. Experience will be on their side as they return nine players including four of their starters. Senior Amber Flagg returns after three straight NECC All Conference selections.

Ranking third in the standings is Mitchell College who will look to their returning impact players for guidance this season including seniors Diamond Thomas and Amanda Garcia.  

Elms College took home the last first place vote and 72 points. There will be a void to fill as they lost two time NECC Player of the Year Denisha Parks. The Blazers have all four of their remaining starters and will look to build on their young talent.

Junior Michelle Woods will lead Wheelock College in their hopes of making a splash in the NECC postseason. Woods was the 2013-2014 NECC Rookie of the Year and a member of the All Conference first team for last season.

Finishing in sixth was Newbury College with 49 points. The Nighthawks return five players from the 2014-2015 season. Daniel Webster College finished close behind in seventh with 46 points. The Eagles will look to extend their post season run with their experienced players.

Becker College (25), Bay Path University (24), and Lesley University (14) round out the 2015-2016 NECC Women's Basketball Preseason Polls.
