Women's Basketball Scorches Daniel Webster

Nashua, NH – Host Daniel Webster trailed by just six at the half but a 30-12 third quarter scoring run by Elms helped send the Blazers on their way to an 85-53 victory in a NECC women's basketball matchup Thursday evening at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Emily Burr (East Hartford, Conn.) led four players in double figures for the Blazers (3-3, 2-0 NECC), who won their third straight and seventh straight against the Eagles (1-5, 1-1 NECC).

Chaniah Pantry (New Haven, Conn.) posted 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench for the winners while Mariah Brown (Windsor Locks, Conn.) and Octavia McAllister (Springfield, Mass.) added 10 points each. Brown added six assists and three steals. Maira Pantoja (East Windsor, Conn.) chipped in with eight points. JC Pickett (Chicopee, Mass.) led with nine rebounds.

Briana Diggs (Washington, D.C.) led DWC with nine points and nine rebounds, while Amanda Gendron (Mont Vernon, N.H.), Ashley England (Old Town, Maine), Amanda Dargie (Melbourne, Fla.) and Escarlin Reynoso (Lawrence, Mass.) all finished with eight points apiece. 

Elms overwhelmed the Eagles inside, finishing with a 56-34 advantage on the boards, outscored the hosts 48-30 in the paint and registered 31 points off 31 turnovers.

The Blazers shot 45-percent on the night while DWC was 38-percent.

DWC stayed within striking distance early in the third as layups from Diggs, England and Dargie kept the deficit at four (38-34) as late as 5:43 remaining but Elms answered by closing the quarter on a 24-4 run including back-to-back layups from Nakia Mabin and seven points from Burr that included a 40-foot bomb at the buzzer to lead 62-38 after three.

The Eagles, who closed a six-game home stand, head to Regis on Saturday for a NECC meeting beginning at 1:00 p.m. and won't return to Vagge Gym until January 9th  

Elms hosts Mitchell in a NECC contest on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
