Softball Drops Two to Pilgrims

Henniker, N.H. - The Elms College Softball dropped two New England Collegiate Conference games with to New England College, Sunday afternoon. The Blazers dropped game one 11-3, and game two 3-1. Elms falls to 0-4 on the season.



Game One – New England College 11, Elms College 3

The Pilgrims got off to a great start, striking out their first three batters to start the game. Elms then got two quick outs before New England College rallied and drove in five runs in the first inning. The Pilgrims had a repeat pitching performance in the second inning but were unable to drive in any runs as the Blazers held strong defensively in the bottom half. Elms College gained some momentum in the third as they hit a solo homerun off the bat of Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT) and held New England College scoreless. The Blazers carried that momentum into the fourth inning as they drove in another run to close the gap at 5-2. The Pilgrims plated a run of their own in the inning as they held a 6-2 lead going into the fifth. Elms kept chipping away in the fifth inning as they cut the deficit to 6-3 and held New England College scoreless again. The Pilgrims regained control in the sixth as they got three quick outs and then drove in five runs to close out the game with an 11-3 win.


Game Two –New England College 3, Elms College 1

The Pilgrims started out with some strong defensive play as they got three quick outs, but were unable to score in the bottom of the first inning. The Blazers got some offense going in the second inning as they filled up the bases, but they were only able to drive in one run for the 1-0 lead after two. From there defensive play took over as neither team scored a run through the fifth inning with both sides making big stops. In the sixth inning, New England College stayed strong on defense and finally broke the scoring drought. The Pilgrims drove in three runs for a 3-1 lead heading into the seventh inning. New England College stayed strong defensively despite a push from Elms as the Pilgrims claimed the 3-1 victory.

The Blazers are back on diamond Wednseday 4/14 when they travel to Lelsey Uinverity fopr a two games at 4pm and 6pm. The games will be played at St. Mary's Field in (Revere).
