CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Elms College Softball team split a pair of contests versus the visiting Eastern Nazarene Lions in a double header setup Saturday afternoon at the Cheryl R. Condon Field. The Blazers won, 9-1 during the first contest, then dropped a 14-6 score to close out the duo. Elms shifts to 7-9 on the season and 3-1 in conference action, while the Mountaineers fall to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in NECC play.

 Game 1: Elms 9, Eastern Nazarene 1 (5 Innings)

The Eastern Nazarene Lions collected their first and only run of the contest early on in the first inning after Lauren Clements (Garrison, Texas) flied out to right field advancing Vivianna Coix (Warrenville, Ill.) to third and sending Kaitlyn Jimenez (Meridan, Conn.) home snagging a 1-0 score.

The Blazers quickly responded after a Kacey Gifford (Suffield, Conn.) triple to center field allowed Catharine Wrang (Middletown, Conn.) and Keyla Oliveras (Springfield, Mass.) to touch home plate for the Blazers. Kierstan Skinner (South Windsor, Conn.) kept up the pace for Elms sending a blow to left field bringing home Gifford off the third base bag. A Raeanna Tumel (Stafford, Conn.) single wrapped up the stint sending home Skinner to close out the scoring upping the Elms lead to 4-1.

During the bottom of the fourth Elizabeth Olszewski (Canterbury, Conn.) homered, tallying her third homerun of the 2016 season.

From there the Blazers continued to pursue the lead eventually scoring nine runs in the five inning close out. On the mound Tumel kept the Lions scoreless from the second inning on, adding a fourth win to her belt.

The Blazers were led by Gifford with four RBI's, followed by Olszewski and Tumel with two apiece.

Game 2: Eastern Nazarene 9, Elms 5

In game two, the Lions took control early snagging a quick 2-0 lead in the first off of a Lauren Weider (Lansdale, Pa.) single that found a hole in the Blazers defense enabling her the time to reach second pushing Clements and Heidi Gomez (Floral Park, NY.) to home plate.

The Blazers eventually got on the board during the bottom of the second after Tessa Cote (Granby, Mass.) and Olszewski touched home plate off of an Oliveras single.

The Lions continued to push their lead running in two in the top of the third with Gomez and Clements both scoring.

The Blazers kept up the momentum trying to close out the deficit however the Lions would continue on a four run stint in the fourth inning that pushed their lead to 8-3. The Blazers came out swinging in the bottom of the fourth tallying two runs off of three hits after a Gifford Single found its home in deep center field to bring home Oliveras and Sullivan.

Despite Elms efforts the Lions would take the split walking away with a 9-5 scoreboard.
