Wellesley Closes Softball's Campaign with Win in NCAA Regionals

MEDFORD, Mass. - First-year pitcher Julia Warner threw a no-hitter and senior 2B Maria LaBouyer went 3 for 4 including a two-run single when Wellesley College scored eight runs in the fourth inning as the Blue elminated Elms College with a 10-0 final in game four of the NCAA Softball Championship Regional at Tufts on Saturday.

Wellesley finished with 14 hits in the five-inning game as they improved to 23-15. Junior DH Carly Bresee was 2 for 4 with a run and an rbi at the top of the order. Junior RF Jaclyn Tsang had a 2 for 4 game with two runs scored. Sophomore catcher Ashtyn Coleman finished 2 for 4 with a run and an rbi and senior SS Emilyrose Havrilla went 2 for 4 with two rbis and a run.

In the circle, Warner earned her 10th win with five strikeouts and two walks.

Elms finished its season with a 20-14 record.

Blazers senior starter Jessica Colson (Agawam, Mass.) escaped danger in the first when Wellesley loaded the bases and the game was tied 0-0 after two innings. However, Colson was injured on a play at first base and she had to leave the game. The Blue would score 10 runs in the next two innings against reliever senior Bethany Grimes (Terryville, Conn.).

Tsang led off the third with a single, stole second, took third on a ground out and scored on a passed ball. Sophomore LF Anna Pisac hit a two-out single later in the inning and scored when Harvilla tripled to right-center for a 2-0 Wellesley lead.

The Blue would send 12 batters to the plate in the fourth. In addition to LaBouyer's two-run single, Bresee doubled in a run. Coleman, Havrilla and senior CF Abby Casey all had rbi singles.

In addition to scoring 10 runs, Wellesley would leave eight runners on base.

The Blue would go on to lose game five of the tournament to MIT, 4-0, later on Saturday. They were elminated and their season ended with a 23-16 final record
