Softball Participates in Spartan Race

CHICOPEE, Mass. - Member of the Elms College softball team preppared for the upcoming spring season by participating in the 2014 Fenway Park Sprint Spartan Race in mid-November.

On November 15, Fenway Park was the site of a Biggest Loser Spartan Race in Boston, Massachusetts. Senior softball players Jessica Colson, Alyson Santerre, Rachel Beery, and Gina DiGiovanni, along with juniors Sam Alvino, Kierstan Skinner, and Taylor Skinner worked their way through many obstacles. A Spartan Race is a three to four mile run filled with fifteen challenging obstacles and challenging wall climbs.

"We conquered things such as six flights of bear crawls, carrying twenty pounds of water up a flight of stairs, picking up and throwing down twenty-five pound medicine balls, and so much more," said Skinner. "With the help of our teammates we also had to face our fears and climbed over six, seven, eight, and ten foot walls. Participating in this  race proved to be bonding; it brought us closer together as friends and teammates. Elms College has as its four core values; Faith, Community, Justice, and Excellence. We used these core values both in this race and in our sport to help one another overcome obstacles or fears and worked as a team to accomplish this fun but challenging day. It was a great day filled with smiles, laughs, sore muscles, and amazing memories that will help us with the next race we participate in."

Spartan Race was created to bring the excitement of obstacle racing to spectators and athletes alike. Spartan Race is a true adventure that anyone can do, and everyone should try.

The Blazers open their 2015 spring season at home against Westfield State on March 18th at 3:30 p.m. at Cheryl R. Condon Field.
