Springfield Blanks Softball in Non-Conference Action

Springfield, Mass. - April 14, 2015- The Springfield College softball program was led by the bat of junior Jenna Webb(Harrison, N.Y.), as it earned its third-straight victory with a 3-0 win over Elms College on Tuesday afternoon at Potter Field.

With the win the Pride climbs to 13-14 overall, while the Blazers drop to 8-11 on the year.

Springfield got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, which was led off by Mackenzie Navarro (Taunton, Mass.), who began the frame with a triple to right.  Two batters later, junior Elizabeth Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) aired a pitch to left field, which would plate Navarro after she tagged up on a sacrifice fly.

In the third, Carianna Gasdia (Wakefield, Mass.) hustled out a bunt for a hit to start the inning, before wheeling her way to second for a stolen base.  Two batters later, Webb blasted a two-run home run over the right-center field fence to put the score at 3-0 in the Pride's favor.

Elms would threaten in the sixth with a one-out single from Kacey Gifford (Suffield, Conn.) and a fielder's choice, which put the sophomore in scoring position, but Nicole Cring (Cooperstown, N.Y.) would retire Tessa Cote (Granby, Mass.) for the final out of the inning.

Camdyn Morgillo (West Haven, Conn.) collected the win for Springfield as she pitched a solid three innings, surrendering a hit and striking out two.  The sophomore is now 3-7 on the season.  Jordyn Moquin (Southington, Conn.) came on in relief in the fourth inning, adding a solid two innings and was followed by Cring who pitched the final inning two innings of play.

Bethany Grimes (Terryville, Conn.) suffered the loss for the Blazers, allowing three runs off of six hits to move her record to 4-6.

Webb provided the big blow of the inning with her two run homerun.  Gasdia pitched in with two hits in two at-bats.  Morgillo, Kirsten Drobiak (Jewett City, Conn.), and Navarro all had hits for the Pride.

The Pride will return to Potter Field on Wednesday afternoon for a non-conference double header verse Keene State. First pitch is at 3:30pm.
