Softball Falls to Amherst College, 5-0

CHICOPEEE, Mass. – Elms College junior hurler Jessica Colson (Agawam, Mass.) fanned four hitters in 7.0 innings of work, but Amherst College received a 2 for 3 effort from Alena Marovitz (Northbrook, Ill.) including a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to lift the Lord Jeffs to a 5-0 victory in Wednesday afternoon's non-league softball game at Cheryl R. Condon Field.

With the loss, Elms move to 8-17 overall, while Amherst improves to 18-9 on the season.

Amherst pitcher Jackie Buechler (San Diego, Calif.) struck out 10 batters and limited Elms to just one hit to improve to 11-5 on the season. Colson moves to 4-8 in the circle.

Marovitz drove in two runs and scored a run, while Donna Leet (Seattle, Wash.) was 2 for 4 with two runs scored, a triple and two RBI. Alyssa Sherwill (Wallingford, Conn.) added two hits in the winning effort.

In the top of the first, Brianna Cook (Far Hills, N.J.) delivered an RBI double to right center field to score Leet who reached on a two-out base hit through the left side earlier in the frame to give Amherst a 1-0 lead.

In the top of the third, the Lord Jeffs struck for three runs as Kaitlin Silkowitz (Scarsdale, N.Y.) walked and stole second before Kelsey Ayers (Los Altos, Calif.) singled to left field. A Leet RBI triple to right field drove both runs home before a Marovitz infield single allowed Leet to cross home with Amherst's fourth run of the game.

In the top of the fifth Marolvitz launched a home run to right field to cap the scoring at 5-0.

Elms was held hitless through the first 3.2 innings before freshman designated player Tessa Cote (Granby, Mass.) belted a deep double to left center field.

Elms concludes regular season action on Saturday, April 26 with a conference double header at Newbury College at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
